Type Locality and Naming

Named after the Kulybulak village, middle reaches of the Angren (Akhangaran) River. T.M. Kremlyakova, B.I. Pinhasov (A.I. Kimidr., 2000). Stratotype along the Kulybulak say. Used in the stratigraphic scheme of Quaternary deposits (A.I. Kim et al., 2000).

Synonym: Kulbulakskaya Suite, Кульбукская св.


Lithology and Thickness

Alternation of boulder pebble gravels, filled with sandy-loamy material, and loams. Thickness up to 27m.

Relationships and Distribution

Lower contact

It lies with erosion on the proluvial deposits of the Tashkent Gr

Upper contact

It is overlain by modern formations.

Regional extent

Pre-Tashkent district, 3rd and 4th levels of relief of submontane proluvial plains. Previously, these deposits were attributed to the Tashkent complex (Tashkent Gr).

Fossils

In the stratotype, stone tools from the Mousterian period, tools, and rock paintings from the late Paleolithic (219a) were found.


Age 

According to paleomagnetic data by X.A. Toychiev, the deposits of Kulbuk Fm are normally magnetized in the epoch of normal polarity; in the upper part (I buried soil) an inverse episode of the geomagnetic field is established, in the II and III buried soils - an episode of anomalous deviation.
